It’s time to take a close look at birds in this hands-on session where we find out all about this feathery group of vertebrates. Carry out a fun scientific investigation to see for yourself how their beaks help them to compete for food in the wild. From the tiny hummingbird to the huge ostrich, birds have unique adaptations which help them to survive. Let’s find out how and have fun with a brilliant bird beak investigation. All activities are optional and will be demonstrated so your child can either watch along, join in at the time or do them later. Please check the optional resource list below. Join us live online to get the most out of the session, however, classes will be recorded so if something comes up, you will be able to catch the replay for 30 days. One ticket is per family/household so siblings can join in the fun together. Please check the time in your state: 1PM AEST is: 1PM Sydney/Melbourne/Canberra/Brisbane/Hobart 11AM Perth 12:30PM Adelaide/Darwin Optional resource list: Writing materials A binder clip or chip clip A fork Tweezers A slotted spoon with small holes (holes smaller than the beans/peas) Chopsticks 1 cup (per child) 20 small lollies (gum drop size) on a plate 20 grains of uncooked rice on a plate 20 marshmallows (or something bigger than the small lollies) on a plate 20 peas or beans in a bowl of water 20 pieces of dry pasta in a bowl of water
