Four fun sessions for primary microbiologists

Calling all primary microbiologists! Join us for four fun, hands-on sessions where we explore the world of the very small. Compare animal and plant cells, see cell transport in action through osmosis and diffusion experiments, learn about cellular microbes such as bacteria and viruses and look at the special cells that you are made of. There will be an activity or experiment demonstrated each week. You can either watch along or grab the easy-to-find materials in the optional resource list below and join in. Optional Resource List: W1: Make or draw an animal cell. Assorted coloured dough or writing materials. W2: Osmosis experiment. Gummy bears, 2 bowls, water, salt, teaspoon, ruler. W3: Viruses activity. Aluminium foil, butter, sprinkles, double sided tape, soap, water, bowl. W4: Blood model. Glucose syrup, plastic bottle, Cheerios, rice, mini marshmallows or writing materials. Microbiology sessions are on Thursday 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th February at 1pm AEDT: 1PM Sydney/Melbourne/Canberra 12PM Brisbane 10AM Perth 12:30PM Adelaide 11:30AM Darwin All sessions are recorded and the replay will be available until the end of term so if you miss a session, you can catch up in your own time. These 45 minute science sessions via Zoom are most suitable for 8-12 year olds with an interest in biology. One ticket per family/household so siblings can join in together. You will receive a confirmation email when you book plus a 1 day reminder and 3 hour reminder. Reach out if you have any questions at all.
